Updates

Week 9 at Cog1!

The experience was good. I get to see a web design & development company. Very comfortable. We critique on my portfolio site and Fugnai Construction site. I have great feedback on the sites and I'm going to fix all the errors and use the suggestions.

Updates:
  • Slider with new photos of home construction rather than street construction. Full width and transparent background for text area.
  • Set slider to slow down the speed.
  • Added process plan of construction list of 5 steps with infographics.
  • Change typeface. No Impact typeface on the navigation.
  • More to be updated...
Copy of Text
Proofread the text with Sharon. Fixed grammar issues. Came up with more text that can attract clients to the company. 23 years of experience instead of 8 years of the company.

Google Analytics
Incorporated Google Analytics into the website. That way there's good SEO and for users to search up the site. I also added meta tags and description that users can search up keywords related to the construction company.

Design

Logo:
I created a logo for Fugnai Construction Corp. I also came up with a short tagline. It will explain a lot of the type of services that my dad provides. I also created icons for the home page buttons: about, work, schedule.

Typeface:
Impact (logo)
Arial (main text)

Sitemap

Sitemap

I have updated the names of the links on the website. I changed the Work to Gallery instead. I also added pages for the Chinese version. Only English and Chinese version.

Purpose

The purpose of creating Fugnai Construction Corp website is to display his work and his company out in the world wide web. I want clients and users to notice the small construction company. It's almost like marketing. In having alternative ways to look into the company besides phone and email, we want a website to get more clients.

Target Audience

Target Audience:
  • Age varies
  • Clients
  • People who need home construction done
  • People who need repairs done
  • People who want to remodel their house
  • People who need general construction done
  • English, Chinese clients
I hope to attract clients that need help on home constructions. By luring them in, I will display gallery images of work. Listing the services will also help in breaking down in the type of work my dad can do.

Image Slider
I am going around taking construction photos on the streets for the slider.

Translator
Since Google Translate translated the text incorrectly, I had to actually create the Chinese webpages myself and copy/paste the Chinese text in. I had my dad to proofread all the text.

Translator Plug-in & Widget

Week 3:

I'm looking into some translator plug-ins or widgets. Here are two of the widgets that seemed to be working:
  1. Translate This Button
  2. Google Translate
Problems:
The problem is that I just want a translator for Chinese only. I don't want that much of other languages. The main languages needed are English and Chinese. Also, when I tested out the translator, it translates the whole page. Some words and the name of the company came out not translated at all.

This week, I am gathering photos for the construction company... it seems that the work portfolio only has about 12 photos of completed projects. I wanted to make a background  and slider images with a construction photo, so I need more photos for this project. I might take some photos of tools or go around looking for construction sites.

Competitor Analysis

Week 2:
Today, we went over our technical specs. Mine was mostly about web specs instead, but still had a few good technical spec terms. This week, I am going to add competitor research analysis to make the documentation better. I will add wireframes and sketches soon.. I have an idea to add in the certification license logo on the website.

Construction Company #1: Bob Price Jr Builder Inc.
www.bobpricejrbuilderinc.net

Pros:
  • Sliding content pages
  • Images have lightbox to view full site
  • Looks professional
  • Filter showcase of work in images
Cons:
  • Too much content on one page. Might load slow for other users.
  • Listed as member of a association, but no logo to certify that. A logo/image would be better.

Technical Brief

Senior Project Development; Spring 2012

Website: FUGNAI CONSTRUCTION CORP

Overview
The goal is to provide an informational website displaying work/portfolio of a small construction company based in San Francisco. The website is also to let the small company well known to the outside world and to clients. There are many non-English speaking clients, so adding a translating or multiple languages plug-in would be good for the website. To certify that the company is genuine, the license board logo and number will be included in the website. Since the photos of the construction work will be added into the website, the photos belong to the owner. We do not want other users to take of save these photos; therefore, a no right-clicking script will be added to the site.
